We´re back cleanupping – the Ozeankind® CleanUp Season 2019 opened its doors.
It still sounds incredible to us how many people have contributed to the last twelve Rebel CleanUps – a special thank you goes out to our community because only with your help we have been able to remove more than 28 tons of waste worldwide. And with our 13th cleanup we´re back in the season!
In the unlikely event that you hear from the cleanup events for the first time, we are more than happy to explain our reason-why again. Because that people are organizing cleanups is neither new nor is it rocket science. By the way … every cleanup is important, no matter where and who has organized it.
However, back then we wanted to make a bigger difference. Regardless of the place where we’ve been. We wanted to give as many people as possible the opportunity to make a difference – wherever they are.
So what is the idea of the Ozeankind® e.V. cleanup?
It is about self-responsibility, um personal initiative and personal motivation. We have the strong desire to motivate as many people as possible to stand up, grab a bag and pick up waste – if just outside their own door, while being on holiday or elsewhere. Because let’s be honest, if everyone in this world would have a higher awareness for waste in nature (or generally the awareness to produce less waste), there wouldn’t be a need for a single local CleanUp action. Because then hardly any rubbish would end up in nature, and if it did, people would pick it up themselves and dispose it professionally.
Until this is reality, we feel the need for a monthly international CleanUp event. So we all collect in different places, maybe several people living in the same town or village get together and collect together? But even if you go out alone in order to make a difference, you can be sure that you will not be alone in the end :).
Do we personally collect garbage?
Yes, and we’ve been doing that since August 2017. Whether we’re on the beach or in a city. Whether on a large scale with several people together or just alone. Whether there are “only” 2 plastic bottles at the roadside or 100 kilos of different waste – washed up on a beach.
So of course we are an active part of every Plastikrebell® CleanUp. That was the case in the past and we will continue to do so in the future. Last year, by the way, we both have personally collected more than a full ton of waste, these numbers also landed on the counter (on our homepage). That’s just a side note, because our goal at Ozeankind® CleanUps is not to put our personal performance on a pedestal, but to remind as many people as possible that they can make a difference. That together you can make a big difference in the world.
In February we ourselves will be active in Asia again. We’ll do our best, take it for granted. It will be a big event for us, because we have organized something there … 😉 And of course we will broadcast for you live on our social media channels.
When exactly does the CleanUp season 2019 start?
It will take place February 22nd to 24th 2019. And after that even there will be nine more events to follow. All dates will be published on our Facebook page.
You can participate in the Facebook event and also share your photos & collected weights at the same time.
And YOU determine WHERE and WHEN exactly you will cleanup!
YOU also tell us HOW MUCH you collect and for HOW LONG.
Simply go out on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays (or all three days), pick up waste in your environment, take a photo, WEIGH the garbage or estimate the weight and share your efforts with the hashtags # Plastikrebell or #Ozeankind on Facebook or Instagram or simply send us a mail!
DISPOSAL. Should the disposal of the garbage collected in Germany cost you money, just send us the receipt (but we need it absolutely) and we will happy to refund the costs!
Of course you can dispose the garbage at your home or ask in the hotel/restaurant, in the surf- or diving school, bring the garbage directly to the recycling yard or inform the city or the garbage collection.
SAFETY. Simply go out on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays (or on all three days), pick up waste in your environment, take photos, weigh garbage or estimate weight and the participation is always voluntary and we cannot take any liability – this event is “only” the frame for YOUR own CleanUps. Please always use gloves when collecting garbage and if possible a pair of tongs, do not enter private areas and always pay attention to traffic and your surroundings – collect garbage only in a safe environment. For example, if you see garbage lying in a place where you don’t think you can pick it up safely, leave it there. Each participant follows our call FREE OF CHARGE and for private reasons – for any injuries/accidents such as broken glass or if you should fall or the like, neither the club nor the Ozeankind-Shop can assume liability.
