JUST BEND DOWN AND CLEAN UP

CLEANUPS ARE ALWAYS A GOOD START

It all started with CleanUps. In 2016 or 2017, we´ve started to collect up plastic waste wherever we were. This was before we even knew what a CleanUp actually was. It was not our waste, it was the waste of other people who have lost their rubbish in our beautiful nature. Of course we don´t know for sure, but part of the waste we collect up was probably even rubbish other people might have dropped into the environment on purpose. And there is incredibly much of this stuff around – almost everywhere. In the oceans, on beaches, in the bush, in the forests as well as in the streets right in front of our homes. It´s literally everywhere in the world.

There can be no doubt: with cleanups, no matter where on the world and no matter how much you are cleaning up, we won´t save the world. CleanUps are “just” a part of the overall solution. However at the end of the day, despite the fact that luckily there are so many actions, projects and ideas worldwide nowadays, the amount of waste which is somehow in our environment at this very moment, has to be removed. And it has to be removed and recycled as good as possible – before all the macroplastic breaks into tiny little pieces, disappearing forever in rivers, oceans or in the ground!

It might surprise you, but CleanUp is not just about cleaning up. It´s also about making a difference, creating awareness for this incredibly important topic. It´s about motivating others. And it´s about collecting up “this single piece” of plastic waste – because you never know if this “single piece” will end up at the end of day. Nobody can ever know if it´s not gonna end up in the stomach of a bird, a whale or a turtle.

WE NEED TO BE ROLE MODELS.

DOING A CLEANUP IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA.

GERMANY IS NOT ASIA – ISN´T IT?

In theory, we should find way more plastic waste in countries on continents who most of the times not even have a low-tech recycling system, like Asia or Africa, than in Germany. One of the “official recycling-wonderlands” of the entire planet. In reality, the situation is slightly different.

Plastic waste is everywhere. Same same, but different. From our point of view, the plastic waste situation in Germany is a big disaster. In Germany we can find tremendous amounts of plastic packaging, even more than in other countries, but less PET bottles. Whereas in other countries we can find more bottles but less packaging materials. Just check the simple amounts … almost 700 kilos of trash in just one park in Dortmund – and month after month at least ONE TON in Germany!

No, Germany is not Asia. But compared to other European countries, when it comes to the number of plastic-packed items and the consumption per person, Germany is one of the worst! And Germany has a plastic waste problem as well – so from our point of view we are “guilty” as well!

CLEANUP IS NOT JUST ONCE A YEAR – JOIN THE PLASTIKREBELL® CLEANUPS

Also based on that – at least once a month – we ask all plastic rebels, kindergarten, schools, bloggers, travelers and all other people living on this planet to joins us for a cleanup. It does not matter where you are at during the event – if in Hamburg, Munich, London, Lisbon, Cape Town or on Maldives. And we do that since more than a year – so long before the #trashtag became famous.

We have collected so much until today – several tons of plastic waste and other rubbish. And it´s growing. People take to the streets, forests or beaches, they collect up as much plastic waste as they want and later they share their results (they also weigh it) with the community on social media, using the hashtags #Ozeankind oder #Plastikrebell.
